Suspect arrested with dagga in Halfway House

HALFWAY HOUSE – A suspect was arrested by Ria Sebetsa Security with a bag of marijuana.

A man found with marijuana he had stashed away on an open stand along Harry Galaun Drive was apprehended by Ria Sebetsa Security officers and handed over to Midrand police on 13 February.

The incident occurred at about 10.30am during a handover of a community petition requesting that the vacant stand be turned into a community play park. A resident noticed the suspect grabbing a bag out of a nearby bush. CEO of Ria Sebetsa Security Danny Muduray said a patrol car was notified and they followed the suspect to 7th Road where he was found with a bag of marijuana.

Upon further investigation, the security services found more marijuana on the suspect.

They handed the suspect over to Midrand police.

In September last year, the Constitutional Court handed down a ruling decriminalising the private possession, consumption and cultivation of marijuana. However, in the ruling Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo reiterated that public consumption and distribution was still illegal.
