Herman Mashaba sends #AReSebetseng team to Kigali, Rwanda

JOBURG – Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba bids farewell to the #AReSebetseng team.

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has sent the #AReSebetseng team to Rwanda on 20 February to learn how they keep their city clean.

The #AReSebetseng team will be in Rwanda’s capital city of Kigali, which is rated one of Africa’s cleanest cities. Mashaba wants the team to participate in Umuganda on Saturday.

Umuganda is a national clean-up day and can be described as community work. People in the country are required to participate in Umuganda which happens on the last Saturday of each month.

The mayor wants the #AReSebetseng team to apply what they will learn in Kigali to the city in the #AReSebetseng, which is similar to Umudanda.

The #AReSebetseng team is joined by JMDP Chief David Tembe and Superintendent Dan Machete, responsible for inner-city policing.

“I believe there a lot of things we are going to learn. Mr Mayor, we promise when we come back, we will have a certain operation on behalf of the city that will say this is what we are implementing what we have learnt,” Tembe said.

The mayor bid his team farewell and shared few words with them.

Mashaba launched the A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign to encourage residents to keep their environment clean. His plan is to encourage all Johannesburg residents to continue taking ownership of their environment by helping to create cleaner communities.
