Police arrest six suspects for various crimes

MIDRAND – We urge residents to come forward and report crime – spokesperson.

The Midrand police have arrested a total of six suspects since the beginning of the new year for dealing in drugs, theft and malicious damage to property.

According to Constable Thabiso Selowa on 1 January, during a crime prevention watch in the San Ridge area, police spotted a grey vehicle parked next to a nearby complex.

The police officers approached the vehicle and found a female in the driver’s seat; they requested to search the vehicle.

During the search, the police found drugs and money wrapped in orange plastic.

One female suspect was arrested and appeared in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on 7 January.

In another incident, two male suspects between the ages of 27 and 30 appeared in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on charges of theft on 3 January.

On 2 January, the suspects allegedly robbed a truck that was delivering goods at a popular retailer’s warehouse.

The security guard saw the occupants of the truck disembark, take four boxes of products and hide them.

It was discovered that the occupants are the employees of the truck company that was delivering the goods worth

R1 500.

The security guard who witnessed the alleged theft alerted the company’s delivery department of the incident and later confirmed that there were some items missing from the truck.

A search of the truck was conducted and the four boxes were found hidden behind the seat.

The police were called and arrested the employees for the alleged theft.

After their first court appearance, the suspects were released on R 1 000 bail each and are expected back in court on 31 January.

Selowa said the Midrand Police Station is serious about fighting crime. “We want the community to know that we are doing everything within our power to fight crime and arrest those involved.

“We are appealing to the community to come forward and report all incidents of crime.”
