Kaalfontein man followed from bank, robbed

MIDRAND – Armed suspects driving a vehicle stopped and demanded money.

A Kaalfontein man was robbed of more than R20 000 after being followed when exiting a bank on 24 November.

According to the police, the man was followed from the bank in Midrand. He apparently stopped his vehicle to speak to someone at Ebony Park. While he was talking, he was confronted by strangers driving another car.

One of the occupants who was armed allegedly approached him and demanded money. Another suspect went straight to the victim’s car and allegedly took the bag containing money before they fled the scene.

Station commander for the Ivory Park Police Station, Brigadier David Ngcobo has called upon residents of Ivory Park and its precincts to exercise caution when conducting financial transactions to avoid falling victims to bank-followings and robberies.

“In the interests of one’s safety, people should refrain from withdrawing large amounts of money as it may have negative repercussions for them. They should rather ask for advice from their financial institutions about the best and safest way of transferring money and making payments without having to carry money around,” said Ngcobo.

Tips:

• Don’t carry large amounts of money

• Be aware of surroundings especially after you have withdrawn money

• Rush to the nearest police station when noticing something suspicious.
