Little Kickers Midrand moves to Beaulieu Preparatory School

MIDRAND – Little Kickers Midrand launches new venue with a soccer festival.

Little Kickers Midrand hosted an Inter-Midrand Soccer Festival to kick off its new venue, Beaulieu Preparatory School.

It was a warm day on 21 July as four teams from two Little Kickers Midrand venues gathered for friendly matches.

“We moved because Beaulieu College needed to use their field for its sports on the weekend,” said club owner, Manuela Jardim.

She described the preparatory school’s field as friendly and intimate – great for developing young talent.

The day saw children in the ‘mighty kickers’ and ‘mega kickers’ classes play.

These were children from four years old to Grade 3.

Jardim said when Little Kickers Midrand play matches they promote a philosophy of ‘play not push’, in that there is no pressure to win and the children must just have fun.

“Mega kickers is the culmination of the preceding age groups. It brings together all the skills learned and introduces them to real football matches.”

She said children continue to develop social and cognitive skills and hone their soccer skills, putting them to use during the matches.

“Children become more competitive at this age and are taught to challenge themselves and one another. The match becomes the climax [at the end of each practice] session and is the perfect outlet for channelling children’s competitive energy as well as transferring their skills into a real-world situation.”

Jardim concluded that at that age, soccer matches teach children valuable life lessons such as fair play, teamwork and the importance of hard work.
