Drunken brawl in Ivory Park: One victim fatally stabbed, another hospitalised

MIDRAND – One of the suspects ran to his place and came back with a sharp object.

Two friends were attacked resulting in one being injured and the other found dead on the scene.

According to the police, the deceased and his friend were assaulted by two men at Ivory Park Ext 6 on 9 June.

All four were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane said, “Witnesses to the murder said that during the fracas, one of the suspects ran to his place and came back with a sharp object which he used to stab the deceased, who passed away a few moments later.”

The second victim was stabbed in the feet and is currently recovering in hospital.

The two suspects, who are foreign nationals aged 19 and 20, have been charged with murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Station Commander of the Ivory Park Police Station, Brigadier David Ngcobo has attributed the attack to the high level of alcohol abuse. “If the details of what brought about this fight is a guide, it is clear that there was no basis for any person to lose his life.”

Ngcobo called on liquor outlets to refrain from selling liquor to people who are already drunk in an effort to curb incidences of violence.
