Two women wanted by police on suspicion of housebreaking

MIDRAND – The police suspect that a duplicate key was used, though it is unknown where it might have been obtained from.

Midrand police are looking for two women suspected to be involved in a housebreaking that took place on 21 April on 14th Road in Shana Park Complex, Midrand.

Three laptops were taken from a unit in the complex but on arrival, neither the police or the owner of the unit found any evidence of a forced entry. The police suspect that a duplicate key was used, though it is unknown where it might have been obtained from.

Members of the public are encouraged to contact the police if they recognise the woman in the picture.

The suspects allegedly told the complex security officer at the gate that they were going to unit 37 and after numerous attempts to call the residents of unit 37 no response was received. The officer apparently allowed the two women in without following proper security procedures.

The investigating officer Detective Joseph Khauli said, “The proper procedure is that if no response is received from the mentioned unit or household, the security should either refuse entry to individuals or accompany them to their identified destination to ensure that’s where they are going.

“At the moment we are uncertain if the security guards were involved in the criminal activity or if it was pure negligence from their side.”

The owner of the unit reported the crime to the complex security company and during the viewing of CCTV footage, two women were identified and are currently wanted for theft and breaking an entry.

Police currently have no leads at the moment but are appealing to the community to contact Khauli or the Midrand Police Station if they have any information which might lead to a breakthrough or arrest.

Details: Detective Joseph Khauli 073 521 2508 or Midrand Police Station 011 347 1626.
