Midrand Striders 60km training run to begin

MIDRAND – The training run is ideally placed seven weeks before the Comrades Marathon.

Midrand Striders Running Club will host their annual 60km Comrades training run on 22 April.

The run will commence from Noordwyk Primary School and end at the school on a route that includes challenging hills. It will start at 5am with registration beginning at 4.15am until 4.50am.

Coordinator at the Midrand Striders Running Club Lynn Dowries said the training run was ideally placed seven weeks before the Comrades Marathon.

“The training run was started to accommodate the need for long-distance training required by Comrades runners,” she said.

Dowries added that the event had become a significant part of many runners’ training calendars and a lot of runners from different running clubs in Gauteng participated.

“It is great for a long slow run on the quiet Midrand country roads. The route is mainly run through low traffic areas and the refreshment stations are well stocked. The seconders’ services are outstanding with water points every 3km along the way.”

Dowries said due to the early start, runners were encouraged to wear visible gear and have headlamps.
