Midrand united in the fight against crime

MIDRAND – Midrand police join forces to curb crime in the community.

The Midrand Police Station together with the sector security and local security companies held a meeting at the Midrand Police Station to discuss security issues affecting different areas in Midrand.

The meeting was held on 8 March.

One of the issues raised was the ongoing targetting of people who leave their homes early to catch the Gautrain, only to have their phones and laptops snatched while they wait for a bus.

Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Captain Martin Hulk said the police are aware of the growing tendencies affecting pedestrians and are in the process of implementing the different measures to curb such crimes. Police, as well as private security, have increased their visibility in the community.

Hulk shared some of the crime statistics that had recently come in for the week 5 March to 11 March. According to the numbers, Noordwyk is still one of the leading crime areas followed by Halfway House; Country View has been one of the least affected by only two incidents.

He said the police are focused on putting a stop to the Rolex gang who had begun to target Waterfall and usually operates in large groups.

Crime-fighting organisations come together to discuss community challenges.

Other cases that were reported were rape, theft, burglary and possession of a firearm among others.

All crime-fighting organisations in Midrand are working hand in hand to try and ensure a decrease in crime in the community.
