The Society for Animals in Distress needs your help

MIDRAND – The Society for Animals in Distress is calling on the community to assist where they can and visit the facility.

The Society for Animals in Distress (Said) in Vorna Valley turns 60 this year making it one of the longest-standing animal welfare organisations in South Africa.

In the last year, Said branched out to Steynsrus in the Free State, making active strides to achieving its vision, to be instrumental and resourceful in ensuring access to veterinary care provision in South Africa.

It is a farm life at the society will all types of animals living together.

Steynsrus’ entire dog population has received primary veterinary care including vaccinations, deworming and sterilisations and all owners have received welfare education as well as shelters, collars, dog bowls and much more.

Said would like the community to assist with the following:

  • Dry pellet puppy food
  • Do a monthly debit order or EFT funds (R150 covers the cost for one sterilisation)
  • Get your company or school involved – we offer group tours
  • Do a collection for us. Ask us for our wishlist
  • Volunteer by dog walking, fundraising, book sorting, month-end and weekend collections
  • Donate pre-loved items
  • Book a retirement home visit
  • Support our events
  • Support the Animal Health Technician (AHT) project initiative and sponsor a graduate intern and cover his or her training costs.

Said is formally associated and instrumental in developing the scope of current and future students at tertiary institutions and serves as a practical training facility during their studies.

Its ultimate intention is to ensure that the quality and accessibility of future veterinary care provision will sustain the demands of the country.

Currently, Said requires investment into its AHT internship programme.
