Ivory Park police arrested three suspects for house robberies

MIDRAND – Three men who are suspects in two house robberies have been arrested in Ivory Park.

Ivory Park police arrested three men in connection with two house robberies during which victims were robbed at gunpoint and left traumatised.

Two of the suspects were arrested on 25 January in Extension 2 in Ivory Park. The two suspects were pointed out to the police by the first suspect made possible because they were pointed out by the first suspect known as Fungai Dube (23) who was detained on 19 January.

“Dube was nabbed during a routine patrol after two laptops were found in his possession, and he couldn’t explain where he got them from. It later emerged that the laptops were taken during a robbery in Kaalfontein two nights before he was arrested,” said the Ivory Park police spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane.

Other items taken on the night of the robberies included two plasma televisions and clothes belonging to the victims.

“The three suspects have already been linked with two house robberies, and the possibility of further links with similar crimes cannot be ruled out. In the meantime, the team is working flat-out to establish links, if any, between the suspects and other similar crimes.

Two of the suspects, aged 18 and 21 are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon. Their accomplice, Dube, who has already appeared in court, is expected back in court soon.

“The arrest of this trio is good news for the community. The task team is working day and night to locate the outstanding two suspects alleged to be part of this robbery squad,” said the Ivory Park Police Station Commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo.
