UPDATE: Ipid believes Metro police covered Nare murder

JOBURG – Journalist Godknows Nare died in April last year in Florida and Ipid believes that the officers' version of events contradicts the evidence.

The three Metro police officers suspected to be involved in the alleged murder of journalist Godknows Nare has been arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) and will face charges of murder, assault and defeating the ends of justice.

Nare died in April last year in Florida and Ipid believes that the officers’ version of events contradicts the evidence.

National spokesperson, Moses Dlamini, said the investigation revealed that instead of the officers being shot, ‘they killed [Nare] and staged the crime scene to cover their tracks’.

Ipid’s executive director, Robert McBride, said this case shows that tampering with evidence will not protect those who should be held accountable.

“Police officers are expected to act within the bounds of the Constitution and the laws of our country,” he said.
