#ICYMI: Golden Knights hope for a better year

MIDRAND – Golden Knights Soccer Academy takes fundamental soccer skills to pre-schools.

Golden Knights Soccer Academy is kick-starting the year with a new programme at pre-schools around Midrand.

“We will open soccer programmes at a pre-school and crèche level to teach children from two to six years old fundamental soccer skills with the view to develop future soccer players for the academy,” said Golden Knights Soccer Academy co-founder Aobakwe Seleka.

He said the plan was also to offer private sessions to children who wish to improve their soccer skills. “We wish to add more children and teams to the academy. We would also like to increase our staff in the background to help us manage the academy”.

Since its inception in 2016, the academy has more than doubled its membership. Last year the U13 team of the academy won the Eastern League Football Association (Elfa) Cup.

“The number of interest from potential future Golden Knights members has also increased. This is testament to the Elfa Cup victory which is a prestigious tournament against the best clubs in Gauteng.”

With the soccer season starting early for Golden Knights Soccer Academy, Seleka said their priority would be to focus on the grass-roots level.

“The love for soccer starts at the first moment any child plays with the ball, now our goal is to nurture that love into a hobby, that hobby into a passion and that passion into talent”, added the Golden Knights Soccer Academy soccer programme coach Katleho Ntsekhe.

“Our saying at the academy is ‘chase your dream’. This is what we preach to our children at practices and games in order to not only make them great soccer players but to also build character.”
