Fire ravages Windmill On Main restaurant, investigation underway
Kyalami - The restaurant was completely destroyed in the fire.
The Windmill On Main restaurant in Kyalami was burnt to the ground this morning, 27 December, and the cause is yet to be established.
The spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station, Warrant Officer Mmakgomo Semono said the police were still waiting for the report from the fire department.
“We are waiting for the report from the fire experts so we could know the cause and establish whether a criminal investigation should be instituted,” said Semono.
The fire apparently began at about 3am.
The restaurant had been closed for the holidays since 20 December. Semono revealed that two of the co-owners were away on holiday in Thailand.
“They reportedly on holiday and are expected to be back soon,” added Semono.
Ward 94 councillor David Foley said another co-owner also said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“It is completely destroyed. It’s a pity, the locals will miss the country atmosphere and delicious food. I myself have eaten there on a number of occasions,” said Foley.
