Tshuma Stingers hold thier awards ceremony
MIDRAND – Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club held their year-end awards to honour the moments of brilliance this season.
Midrand rugby club, Tshuma Stingers, hosted its year-end awards ceremony on 14 October at Halfway House Primary School.
Founder of Tshuma Stingers, Ndumiso Tshuma said the club’s players beamed with pride from their recent victories on the field of play and were well led by their coaches and administrative staff. He thanked the sponsors Fury Mazda Midrand and Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation not only for the funds, kit and equipment they provided but for their commitment to developing rugby at grassroots level.
The evening of glitz and glamour was filled with laughter provided by comedians Vuyo Jiya and Bongani Nkosi who had the guests in stitches, entertained by rapper Taylor T.
Bernerd Blom, the dealer principal at Fury Mazda Midrand spoke about the journey that he had travelled with the club.
Blom commended Tshuma Stingers for their endeavours to develop and nurture raw rugby talent. Boyce Mfuneko Joko of Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation challenged the club’s management and players to keep growing the club.
Head coach Sifundile Lofty Tyebileyo was awarded the senior team coach of the year, while Collette Chawatama received the junior club coach of the year award.
“Our goal is to introduce the sport at an early age and expose it to all genders,” added Tshuma. “Through development, we will increase the opportunities available to all members of society. Based on the principles of inclusion, equity and sustainability, the emphasis is on the importance of increasing opportunities for the current generation as well as generations to come.”

- Sifiso Swelindawo – Most promising player – Drake Koka Primary School
- U12 girls’ team – Team of the year – Dr Mathole Primary School
- Asanda Mfiki – Player of the year – Kaalfontein Primary School.
U20 awards
- Pascal Langa – Sportsmanship award
- Clifford Mahlomanyane – Most promising player
- Pascal Langa – Player of the year.
Senior team awards
- Tanner Mark Fox – Sportsmanship award
- Malusi Mkize – Best backline player
- Rofhiwa Mundalamo – Most improved player
- Edmund Bratverd – Best forward
- Donald Mugandani – Players’ player
- Nathan Kok – Player of the year.
