Carlswald building operation under investigation

MIDRAND – Alleged illegal building operation in Carlswald is investigated.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe, who is also the Whip for the Section 79 Oversight Committee of Development Planning, highlighted that another alleged illegal building operation is being investigated.

Deppe said she had been contacted by a number of residents and building inspectors about a stand in Carlswald Agricultural Holdings.

According to Deppe, complaints were raised regarding the possibility that there were no approved building plans for the development on this piece of land. In addition, it is being alleged that various other City of Joburg bylaws are being infringed upon.

“An inspection revealed that an illegal water meter had been connected by the developers to the main Joburg Water water supply. Immediate instructions to cut water supply to the property was issued on 14 September.

The matter has been referred to the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba; MMC for development planning and the leader of executive business in the City of Joburg, Funzela Ngobeni; chairperson of the Section 79 Oversight Committee of Development Planning, Graham de Kock; and Deppe, for investigation.

“Unscrupulous developers need to get the message that no one is above the law.”
