Fatal accident at Buccleuch Interchange leaves 1 dead, several injured

JOBURG – A woman has died while 23 other people have been injured after a taxi overturned on the N1/M1 South highway.

It has been reported that all lanes on the M1 South have been closed due to a serious accident this afternoon.

A woman has died while 23 other people have been injured after a taxi overturned on the N1/M1 South highway.

According to ER24’s Russel Meiring, paramedics were on their way to another emergency when they came across the accident.

“On arrival, paramedics found a taxi in the middle of the highway. The occupants had already climbed out and were now laying across the scene,” he said.

Meiring said that paramedics located the lifeless body of the woman, who is believed to be in her 30s, laying on the opposite side of the highway.

“The woman had already succumbed to her multiple injuries. Nothing more could be done for her and she was declared dead.”

When assessing other occupants, paramedics found that 20 more people had suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious.

“The patients were treated for their injuries and the seriously injured were provided with advanced life support interventions.”

It is believed that two people had been trapped under the overturned taxi and were removed by members of the public.

Traffic is reportedly heavily backed up to Corlett Drive and motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
