Women abuse in the spotlight as man appears in court for allegedly killing his girlfriend

MIDRAND – Man arrested after allegedly stabbing his lover to death.

 

Ivory Park police have arrested a 39-year-old man from Diepsloot for allegedly murdering his girlfriend on 12 August in Ivory Park.

“The victim was found dead after she was stabbed to death in the chest with a knife,” said Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

Matimulane said the police embarked on an investigation ever since the murder occurred and on 14 August, the probe findings led the police to Diepsloot. The suspect was found in Diepsloot and arrested.

Further investigations were focused on identity, background and home of the victim to try and discover why she was in Ivory Park.

Continuous investigations have revealed that the alleged couple had an argument which culminated in the 34-year-old victim’s death.

“Her lifeless body was reported by anonymous members of the community,” said Matimulane.

Brigadier David Ngcobo, the station commander for Ivory Park Police Station said, “We are saddened by the ease with which lives are taken by intimate partners, whose duty is to love and protect. I thank the officers who worked non-stop to ensure that the person suspected of being responsible for this atrocity is brought to justice.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon.
