WATCH: Attempted hijacking in Midrand

MIDRAND - Quick-thinking ensured the victims made a speedy escape.

There was an attempted hijacking in Midrand over the weekend, and Community Policing Forum chairperson Steven Johnson said they have traced the car registration number and make of vehicle which was used by the attempted hijackers.

Midrand police operations commander Lionel Chetty said the police are aware of the incident and a case has been opened, but cannot comment further at the moment.

This after video footage of the attempted hijacking, made available by Crime Watch, went viral on social media. The footage shows a white Range Rover pulling into a driveway and the female passenger exiting the car. The woman then notices the suspects’ vehicle speeding down the road towards them before one armed suspect jumps out. She quickly gets back into the vehicle before the driver of the Range Rover hastily reverses back down the road, almost knocking over one of the suspects.

No arrests have been made. More information will be revealed as it becomes available.
