Man shot dead in Ivory Park, police investigate

MIDRAND – Police are calling on community members to assist in solving the murder of a man that was shot dead.

Ivory Park police officers are calling on community members to come forward with information regarding the fatal shooting of a man at Ivory Park Ext 3 in the early hours of 1 August. According to police, the shooting did not take place far from the MaAfrica Tavern.

“Police on patrol were called to a murder scene by an unknown community member after a man’s body was discovered on the street with no signs of life. Upon their arrival, the police discovered that the man had a gunshot wound just below the armpit,” said Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

The victim’s mother identified the body and that the victim was a member of the Ivory Park community.

Matimulane said attempts to solicit information were unsuccessful as all of the bystanders and neighbours said they had no knowledge of what happened. No cartridge was found on the scene.

“We call upon anyone with information regarding this matter, or any other crime to contact the police. Anonymity is guaranteed for those who do not wish to be known,” said Station Commander, Brigadier David Ngcobo.
