A spokesperson from Kyalami Corner Centre Management said, “Following the unfortunate incident over the weekend, Kyalami Corner Centre management has further heightened security measures at the centre. Effective immediately, visible uniformed security will undertake around-the-clock patrols at the centre and be in place as long as necessary.
“The security has been further bolstered by the deployment of dedicated tactical vehicles, manned by armed guards on a 24/7 basis until further notice. The centre has also decided to install booms with spikes to monitor access and thwart any efforts by criminal elements to get away. The booms will be in place over the next few weeks.
“We will continue to monitor the situation along with the authorities and security agency. An independent security analyst is on site to assess risks and make recommendations for longer term measures to be implemented. We remain committed to identifying ways in which we can make the shopping experience friendlier and safer. The centre continues to cooperate with the investigating agencies and the Community Policing Forum and is also making on-site counselling available to all tenants and their staff.”

Police have confirmed the owner of the Coin Shop at Kyalami Corner has been shot following a robbery on 30 July at 11.30am. Security footage shows nine suspects robbing both the Cell C store and Coin Shop simultaneously.
Witnesses said gunshots were fired and, at that this point, the suspects dispersed. They fled from both shops with very little loot. The victim is at Milpark Hospital in a critical condition.

Netcare 911 responded to the scene and found that the male victim, believed to be in his 40s, had been shot in the face. He was attended to by Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedics, placed on a ventilator and stabilised at the scene. Due to his significant injuries, the Netcare 911 helicopter ambulance was called to the scene and landed in the parking area of the shopping centre.
The victim was then airlifted to an awaiting Trauma Unit for the urgent and specialised care that he required.
Police have agreed to meet with the centre management and put together plans for better security.
