Ivory Park woman robbed by men she hired for construction services

MIDRAND – A woman from Ivory Park was robbed of her cellphones and money by men she hired to do construction for her.

 

A woman from Ivory Park Ext 9 was robbed, allegedly by three armed men she had hired for construction services at her house on 6 July.

According to the police, the trio forced the door open and woke up the woman who was a sleep with her two daughters. All three men were allegedly armed and demanded money and cellphones from the woman. “She managed to identify them, as she said she had hired them to build rooms for her and some other construction-related jobs at her home on more than one occasion,” said the spokesperson for Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

The suspects were arrested at the Winnie Mandela informal settlement in Tembisa. They allegedly took three cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money.

“Someone sleeping in another shack heard the noise and screamed for help. The alleged robbers were frightened and fled the scene. They fired a shot as they were fleeing. No one was injured.”

The three suspects, aged 30, 33, and 40, are expected to appear in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on a charge of house robbery.

Ivory Park Police Station Commander Brigadier David Ngcobo, has complimented the police for their speedy arrest and willingness to follow up on information provided by the victim. “The swiftness with which our members reacted and arrested the suspects deserves to be praised. It shows that with the right information at our disposal, no criminal is beyond our reach,” he said.
