Epilepsy Awareness SA hosts roadshow at Lord Khanyile Community Hall

IVORY PARK - Community members are encouraged to attend the presentation to learn more about the disease and to learn about first aid measures.

Epilepsy Awareness SA will host a roadshow at the Lord Khanyile Community Hall in Ivory Park on 15 July to raise awareness about the disease.

“We raise awareness at schools with presentations and first aid demonstrations – sometimes with the support of paramedics. This roadshow is the first of its kind in the township and the first in isiZulu,” said campaign organiser for Epilepsy Awareness SA, Tania van Heerden.

The roadshow will start at 10 am. Community members are encouraged to attend the presentation to learn more about the disease and to learn about first aid measures.

Epilepsy Awareness SA is a non-profit organisation that also hosts annual walks in Sandton and toiletry drives. The youngest volunteer and co-founder, Maximilian van Heerden (13) is also a volunteer at Bathabaleng Home in Tembisa. “We are all volunteers and receive no salary. We work full time in the corporate sector and most of us also study part time. We decided to start with Tembisa as Max currently volunteers at one of the homes in the area so he thought this presentation was much needed in the community.”
