All well at Wellness Day at Midrand Primary School

MIDRAND – Midrand police and Mrs Globe South Africa joined forces in the Sports Against Crime campaign and hosted the Midrand Youth Sports and Wellness Day.

A Midrand Youth Sports and Wellness Day was hosted by Mrs Globe South Africa 2016, Sandi Maqoqa, and the Midrand Golden Eagles Netball Club at Midrand Primary School.

Maqoqa said the objective of the day was to reach the community through sport as well as address some of the social challenges that affect the youth and result in young people turning to crime.

“Sport plays a big role in shaping a young person to be disciplined, responsible and also keep busy, therefore, I hope that with more and more sports tournaments taking place in the community, the youth will have a place to turn to and invest their energy and time,” said Maqoqa.

The day was attended by five community-based netball teams that do not participate in any leagues. The teams were the Midrand Golden Eagles, Mbokodo, Eclipse, Gauteng Provincial Treasury (GPT) and Joburg Police. Midrand Golden Eagles won on the day, with second place going to GPT, and Mbokodo claiming third. All participants received medals.

The participation of the Midrand Police Station, Imbizo Shisanyama, Hillbrow Radio, Cosmos Youth Dance, Midrand Primary and the LindelwaM Music band made the day a success.

Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the station’s social crimes team participated in hosting the event because this supported their Sports Against Crime campaign which aimed at keeping the youth busy with sports activities to curb drug addiction and crime among young people.
