Cyclists are searching for a bike in mystery accident on Old Pretoria Road

MIDRAND — Cyclists are desperately looking for a white bakkie driver who offered to take a bike during an accident on 23 April.

Friends of a cyclist who was involved in a mystery accident on 23 April on the Old Pretoria Road are desperately looking for a motorist who helped to transport the bike from the scene.

Les Balkind said they were cycling near the SA Mint and Coin Museum when one of them, Michael Levitan fell off, lost consciousness and sustained injuries to his neck. Levitan has since been hospitalised and cannot move his arms and other parts of his body due to the neck injury.

“A Good Samaritan whom we know only as Deon stopped by and offered to take the damaged bike on his white double cab bakkie. We lost his numbers and can’t get hold of him to get back the bike,” he said.

Balkind added that it was important for them to retrieve the blue racing bike to establish the cause of the accident. “It is now six weeks later and he is still in hospital, thankfully finally showing signs of improvement. We would really like to recover the bicycle in order to see what caused the fall – we suspect it was some mechanical incident. It’s really important for Michael to understand what happened and to try to get closure.”
