18 BMWs issued to the Police Emergency Services’ Flying Squad

MIDRAND – New additions to Police Emergency Services' Flying Squad.

Brigadier Samuel Stanley Kilian the provincial commander of the Gauteng Police Emergency Services, issued 18 vehicles to the Flying Squad units on 5 June at the Gauteng 1011 Centre in Midrand.

Brand-new BMWs were issued as additional vehicles to assist service delivery to the 142 police stations in Gauteng.

“Flying squads are being used as an effective deterrent to crime, as well as serve as a force multiplier to all police stations in its service area during serious and violent crimes in progress that require immediate responses,” said Captain Pinky Tsinyane, the provincial communication officer for the Gauteng Police Emergency Services.

“Although the vehicles are unmarked at this stage, Killian said that permission was granted to utilise them because they are fitted with blue lights. The cars will be marked at a later stage because the current priority is to deliver services,” said Tsinyane.

During his address to the Flying Squad unit commanders, Kilian encouraged the commanders to ensure proper management of the vehicles.

Out of the seven flying squad units, each received two vehicles but Pretoria and Germiston stations received four vehicles.

“With this type of high-performance vehicles we hope that our units will work hard to serve communities, as well as complying with our constitutional responsibility to ensure a safe and secure environment for all our inhabitants,” said Tsinyane.
