Waterfall Varsity College Cares team held a special Easter egg hunt for the children of the New Jerusalem Children’s Home on 13 April.
Public relations and events coordinator for Varsity College, Tim Verne said the team arrived at the New Jerusalem’s Children’s Home eager and excited to meet the children with boxes of marshmallow Easter eggs.
“The Varsity College Cares members dispersed to every corner of the home’s grounds, hiding eggs high and low, in bushes, on statues and in all nooks and crannies. Once all the eggs were hidden from plain sight, the little hunters were set loose, running from corner to corner of the grounds, grabbing and piling the treats into their hoodie pockets as they looted the grounds and gardens of the marshmallow eggs,” he said.
Senior social worker at the New Jerusalem Children’s Home Mduduzi Thomo said he was touched by the college’s visit to the home. “These are very special children – they love, they live and they laugh. Through this egg hunt the spirit of Easter was instilled in each and every one of them,” said Thomo.

After the Easter egg hunt, the children gathered on the grass to share their spoils with one another and take photos with the team. “It was a heart-warming experience to see how much fun the kids had as well as the way they came together and shared what they had found at the end. It was a very special day for both the little ones, staff and teams,” added Verne.
