Vehicle used in shooting of Metro police officer in Ivory Park Ext 2 found in Tembisa

MIDRAND – Vehicle used in the shooting of Metro cop in Ivory Park has been found abandoned.

The Toyota Hilux double cab used in the shooting of the Metro police officer on 20 March at Ivory Park Ext 2 was found abandoned at Sethokgoa Hostel in Tembisa.

The vehicle was found at the hostel by police on the same day of the incident.

The officer was shot and wounded during a stop-and-search roadblock by occupants of the Toyota Hilux double cab. The officer apparently tried to stop the vehicle with about four occupants inside.

The vehicle slowed down instead of stopping, and one of the passengers allegedly shot the officer in the hand and leg using an R5-assault rifle before driving away.

The wounded officer was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.

A case of attempted murder is under investigation.

Spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station, Captain Bernard Matimulane confirmed that the vehicle had been found. “The vehicle was found abandoned later on the day of the incident and investigations are continuing,” Matimulane said.
