The suspects were arrested on 18 January on Olifantsfontein Road while travelling in a white Toyota Verso, suspected to have been used in a number of hijackings. After the four men were profiled, it was established that some of them had pending hijacking cases and one was out on bail for another case.

Three days before the arrest, the culprits were allegedly involved in the hijacking of a Ford Ranger belonging to a Midrand resident on the N1 South. The vehicle was later recovered in Rosettenville on the same day. The men, aged between 25 and 34, also allegedly stole the victim’s cellphone and laptop.

“We want to commend the good work, commitment and extraordinary efforts of our members who worked tirelessly to achieve this arrest,” said spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

The suspects will appear in court as soon as a date has been set.
