Safety on the road a priority this New Year

MIDRAND – Metro police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar's road rules for the new year.

Spokesperson for Metro police, Wayne Minnaar, has issued a New Year’s message for all Midrand residents for the festive season as the year draws to a close.

Minnaar said road safety is very important for the New Year so as to minimise the number of deaths on the road caused by reckless driving, among many other things.

New Year’s Day is commonly seen as a time to celebrate and, as a result, many people are often under the influence of alcohol.

Minnaar’s road safety tips for the New Year include:

  •  Drivers must take a break every two hours
  •  Motorists must never overtake on a curve, bridge or solid white line
  • Drivers must drive within the speed limit
  • Motorists must never drive under the influence of alcohol
  • Motorists must always ensure the vehicle is roadworthy before embarking on a trip.

Minnaar wishes all residents a happy New Year and highlighted that the Metro police, South African Police Services and National Traffic officials will be visible everywhere.
