Vukani Fashion Awards sport African flair

JOBURG – The Vukani Fashion Awards will be a star-studded affair on 26 November at the Junction Mall in Newtown, Johannesburg.

The date has been set, the venue has been confirmed and the nationwide search for the 22 finalists is over – now it is time to choose the winners of the 22nd Annual Vukani Fashion Awards.

The awards are an annual project put together by the South African Fashion Designers Agency (Safda), which is under the directorship of Sonwabile Ndamase.

The awards involve a national industry search for the latest up-and-coming designers who are aspiring to be professionals in fashion, the emerging young designers who wish to work in the industry and those who need to take their careers to a higher level.

The project will culminate in a star-studded awards ceremony on 26 November at the Junction Mall in Newtown, Johannesburg, with an inspirational theme for this year being 21 years of democracy.

Out of this theme, the designers were tasked with creating designs incorporating elements of the country’s historical background along with African cultural influences for the awards ceremony.

This inspiration also intrigued the founder of the awards, Ndamase, to find out how international curators and critics interpret the unique voices which South Africa brings to the world.
