Ivory Park head worries about disregard of police tips

Brigadier Ngcobo is further concerned that the police’s numerous appeals for people to avoid that spot, especially when it is dark, seem to be falling on deaf ears as people continue to visit this notorious place during those hours. Others get robbed while using the place to have a prayer meeting, or looking for a quiet place to meditate, and some have died.
On 29 October at night, a 34-year-old man was fatally shot while he and his girlfriend were sitting in his vehicle at this desolate spot. The deceased and the woman were first robbed by two men, one of whom was armed.
Ngcobo said apart from the above incident, which resulted in a loss of life, another person was also shot and injured after he and the woman he was with were found by a man. The suspect shot the couple without warning. Couples tend to like that spot to get intimate, something that results in robberies, injuries and even death.
Ngcobo commented, “We have had people being robbed while praying – hence, the reason we use every meeting with community structures to [make them] aware of that place and what happens to those who visit there after dark. As the police, we will try our utmost to patrol the place but, in the same breath, individuals are strongly urged to avoid that spot, especially at night.”
