‘Drunk driver could barely stand,’ says Metro police after accident

MIDRAND – Drunk driver arrested for causing accident on Lever Road.

 

A man driving a black VW Polo was arrested for drunk driving when he collided with a BMW and a Hyundai on Lever Road. Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar of Metro police said, “The incident took place just before 7pm on 4 October. The 41-year-old tested 3.194mg on a breathalyser which is more than 10 times above the legal limit of 0.24mg.”

“Metro police officers who attended the scene said the man could barely stand on his feet and had just come from a pub in Midrand. Police were amazed at how he managed to get in his car and drive it about two blocks away from where he claims he had been,” Minnaar revealed.

He added that no one was injured in the accident and the vehicles involved were only slightly damaged.

Midrand police spokesperson, Constable Matome Tlamela confirmed the arrest and said the minimum bail for drunk driving was R1 000.
