Midrand Regional Clean up

MIDRAND - The Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Midrand Regional Committee, in an effort to attract business to the CBD by making the area more appealing and attractive for business, spearheaded a clean-up.

Event organiser Pauline Mahlangu, the chairperson of the JCCI Regional Committee said in cooperation with the City of Johannesburg, JCCI’s clean-up took place daily from 3 to 7 October. What started previously as a one-day event, was now a marathon event using existing infrastructure to give Midrand a fresh face, she added.

“To attract investment, the area needs to be appealing,” said Mahlangu. “Thanks to the partnership with the City of Johannesburg, the JCCI Regional Committee has a vision of continuous improvement for the inner city.”

Mahlangu added that other departments involved in the clean-up were Metro police which dealt with law enforcement and removal of illegal signage; the Environmental Health Department provided education programmes for informal traders in the CBD and Johannesburg Roads Agency fixed potholes, cleaned kerb inlets, painted roads and swept streets. Also involved was Pikitup in conjunction with the Community Workers Programme and Midrand Traders, whose workers picked up litter and removed waste and Joburg Water addressed sewer spillage and leaks in the CBD.
