Charity hosts career counselling day

MIDRAND – Pupils were encouraged to reach their goals, pursue their passion and live their dreams at a career counselling day.

The Educare Charity Foundation together with Acts of Love organisation held its first career counselling day in Glen Austin.

The foundation focuses on the educational future of orphaned children and provides extra tuition to about 40 high school pupils who live in Midrand-based orphanages.

Educare’s project manager, Nadine Nagooroo said the career day focused on providing a one-on-one career guidance for pupils.

Nagooroo explained, “Each Educare pupil was given the opportunity to map out a career path that best suits their skills, interests and abilities by completing a Dominance Influence Steadiness Conscientiousness, an assessment tool that helps one understand one’s behavior, temperament and personality.”

Every pupil received a dream bag consisting of a journal, T-shirt, wristband, bookmark, pens and other items to help them in the pursuit of their career dreams.

“Pupils were also given the opportunity to choose from a selection of postcards that contained inspirational advice from older people. They will read these Dear Younger Me motivational messages on the days when things seem difficult so that they will be inspired to never give up on their dream,” said Nagooroo.

The career counselling day consisted of breakfast, a motivational talk, dance class, the career counselling session as well as lunch and a fun photo booth session.

Acts of Love thanked the volunteers and generous donors who made a contribution to the day.
