Suspects bust for Mall of Africa shooting

MIDRAND – Police arrested two suspects who are linked to a shooting at Mall of Africa.

Two suspects wanted in connection with a shooting on 3 July at the Mall of Africa, have been arrested.

Metro police’s Chief Superintendent, Wayne Minnaar said they and the police’s flying squad arrested two wanted male suspects on 7 September in connection with the murders at the mall. The shooting, which took place at 6pm, left two men dead and police are investigating whether it was linked to taxi violence.

Minnaar said, “The suspects were found in possession of a licensed firearm at a hostel in Alexandra after officers were tipped off about the wanted men’s whereabouts. The suspects initially managed to flee from the hostel on 6 September, however, officers organised a follow-up the next morning and arrested them.

“The firearm was taken for ballistic tests to establish whether they could be positively linked to two murders.”

Provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini is yet to confirm if the suspects have appeared in court.
