Suspect arrested for possession of stolen vehicle

MIDRAND – Man in possession of a stolen motor vehicle tries to flee arrest, but is apprehended.

A man was arrested by Ivory Park police for possessing a stolen motor vehicle.

The arrest took place on 1 July after the suspect was found in possession of the vehicle which was alleged to have been hijacked in Douglasdale in June.

The Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “According to members of the Ivory Park Community Policing Forum (CPF), the black Kia Picanto was parked next to a house on 30 June with no one inside.

“On Friday, members of the CPF watched the vehicle from a short distance away and saw the suspect unlock the vehicle. They approached the suspect and asked if he was the owner of the car and he claimed that it belonged to his sister.”

Sekgobela said the suspect then ran away, but members of the forum apprehended him and called the police who, on arrival, made investigations and found that the vehicle was reported as hijacked in June.

The suspect was arrested and will soon appear at Tembisa Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
