Acts of goodwill

MIDRAND – Acts of Love, a Midrand-based charity organisation has once again touched the lives of the homeless through their annual winter drive.

From Kaalfontein to Olievenhoutbosch to the streets of Hillbrow, Acts of Love, a Midrand-based charity organisation, has been warming up winter for many needy and homeless people in what marks their fifth Annual Winter Outreach project.

At the first outreach event in Kaalfontein, 2 500 people received blankets, beanies, scarves and a hot meal. The second outreach event was held in Olievenhoutbosch and hosted over 800 people. The team also reached out to the homeless people in Hillbrow and handed out 400 winter packs.

Approximately 1 500 winter packs will be handed out 26 June. Several Acts of Love volunteers from various areas in Johannesburg have volunteered their time to distribute over 5 000 winter packs and hot meals this winter.

Many of the volunteers who have participated in the winter outreaches have expressed similar sentiments, describing the events as humbling, life changing experiences. One volunteer, Pontsho Wa Mpouthing said that this year’s winter outreaches have truly changed his life. “Making a difference is so important and to go out and touch the lives of so many people is very humbling, being part of this experience made me grateful for everything that I have been blessed with, especially family.”

The outreach’s project managers, Denver and Levina Narainsamy, said they were extremely grateful to have been part of such an incredible project that aims to serve the needy. They went on to say that they were overwhelmed by the generous sponsorships and the interest that the project received this year.

Levina said that the volunteers were absolutely amazing. “They gave 100 percent towards the project and never allowed the cold weather at the outreach events to dampen their spirits,” she said.

Acts of Love will have their next outreach on 16 July where they will be renovating various facilities in Ivory Park Primary School as part of their Mandela Day initiative.
