Narrow escape for kidnap victim

VORNA VALLEY – A woman's harrowing kidnap experience.

According to Ria Sebetsa’s chief executive officer, Danny Maduray, a young woman was recently kidnapped by two men on Harry Galaun Road on 8 June.

The woman lived to tell the tale to the security company’s guards after jumping out of her abductors’ moving car.

The victim, who was coming back from OR Tambo International Airport, had just jumped off a taxi and was walking home when a white Kia Rio pulled up next to her. The men, who were armed, are said to have forced her into the vehicle. They allegedly took her handbag, iPhone and luggage. When they reached Albertyn Street in Midrand, the woman saw an opportunity for escape and jumped out of the moving vehicle.

A member of the community saw the scene and immediately called Ria Sebetsa Security officers. The car got away, but the eyewitness gave its registration number to Maduray.

“The security officers called one of the ambulance services who came and assisted the woman with emergency medical care,” said Maduray.

He said the young woman’s sister was also called to the scene and she took the victim to a hospital. “They said they were going to go to the police straight after.”

Constable Matome Tlamela, head of communications at the Midrand Police said that they did not have a record of the case. Tlamela said it was important to report all crimes to the police as soon as possible. “We want people to be crime conscious. Be aware of crime opportunities at all times and report suspicious activities to the police,” she said.
