Firefighter killed whilst attending to Midrand accident

MIDRAND -  A firefighter lost his life just after 5am on 5 June.

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services released a statement regarding the unfortunate incident that took place over the weekend.

“It is with a heavy heart and dismay that the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services is once again dealing with the sudden loss of life of a Firefighter/EMT Tebogo Thobodi,” the statement read.

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services confirmed that Thobodi lost his life while attending to a patient at a motor vehicle accident along the N1 highway near New Road in Midrand.

“He selflessly invested 12 years of his dedication to medical, fire and rescue experience to the City and its citizens.”

“His footprints and legacy will remain in our hearts.”

 

Wayne Minaar, spokesperson for the Metro Police  said the incident occurred on the N1 South, before the Allandale off ramp. “A female driver with a white Polo collided into a stationary tow truck and EMS staff.”

Minaar said two paramedics were also slightly injured during the incident. “A charge of culpable homicide and reckless driving will be investigated against the female driver.
