Spotted by UK group

MIDRAND – Midrand resident catches eye of African musical group based in the UK.

After reading an article about a musician, Byron Khumalo, on the Midrand Reporter website, a UK-based African musical group known as Sinazo, contacted him to assist with one of their songs.

Khumalo said he was very excited that the group wanted to collaborate with him on a song. “The group contacted me and we sent each other recordings and recorded a single, titled Idlozi Lami (‘my ancestor’). The song talks about someone who is a firm believer in his or her culture and feels like the ancestors are not playing the role they should in a person’s life.”

Khumalo mentioned that Sinazo has a huge fanbase in the UK, Botswana and Zimbabwe and the group’s song Khalanga Child (Khalanga is a language in Zimbabwe) has enjoyed fair airplay on radio stations in the three countries.

Tish Ncube, the lead member and founder of Sinazo, said he came up with the idea of the song after observing how people are often stressed by what they go through in life.

“Sometimes you get stressed, especially when the environment you live in becomes your enemy and nothing seems to work for you. I grew up not only listening to kwaito, even my lifestyle, fashion sense and the way I relate, is, I presume, as a result of that kwaito influence.”

Sinazo’s lead vocalist, also popularly known for her own leading role in the international a cappella group, Nobuntu, Duduzile Sibanda said, “Idlozi Lami is a great and powerful song which talks about issues I identify with in my everyday life, therefore it meant a lot to me.”

The song Idlozi Lami is available to download at www.beats98.com and is available in all major online music stores such as iTunes, Amazon, Googleplay and Spotify.
