Vorna Valley Spar is robbed

VORNA VALLEY– Three armed men rob a Spar in the early hours of 18 April.

A Spar in Vorna Valley was robbed by three armed men in the early hours of 18 April.

A close source to the supermarket said the night security guards were found tied up in the store at around 6am in the morning.

Constable Matome Tlamela confirmed that there had been a robbery at the Spar. “The security personnel, who were patrolling inside the store, said they were approached by three men who were armed and they demanded the keys to the store’s administration office.”

It is unclear as to how the men gained access into the store as the investigation is still ongoing. The eyewitness claimed that as part of their loot, the robbers also took boxes of cigarettes, however Tlamela could not confirm this. “The security guards were tied up and the men then proceeded to grind the safe open,” she said.

The men eventually opened the safe. “The security said the robbers arrived at the store at around 1am and only left after they had managed to open the safe at around 5.40am,” said Tlamela. She said it was normal for business robberies to take that long.

“Although the police have not made any arrests as yet, the investigation is still ongoing,” said Tlamela.

The management of the Spar has declined to comment on the incident.
