Youth-run entertainment company makes impression in music industry

KYALAMI – Moonboy Entertainment, a new record label run by young people in Kyalami, wants to make a lasting impression on the music industry through its artists.

The owner, Michael Shodimu, said the company, which runs Moonboy Records and is also an audio and visual production company, has an array of artists from South Africa and Africa who record there. He stated, “We want to make an impact on the local and international stage. None of the artists have released a single yet, but they have been working on a new track together which will be released in December.”

The company also wants to have an impact on charities they come across. “We are not only musicians. At the end of the day, we want to also positively impact communities. We recently donated to underprivileged children at a pre-school in Ivory Park,” said Shodimu.

He mentioned that while it is a challenge to introduce new artists to the music scene, the record label will continue to develop and mould young people who are looking to break into the entertainment industry. Two artists from the company spoke to Midrand Reporter about their passion for music. Oluwatobi Ayomide Balogual, aka Young B, is a Nigerian national whose genre is Afro-pop. Young B said his ultimate dream is to succeed in his music career and be a role model for other upcoming artists. He added, “I want people to know if you focus on your dreams and hone your craft, you can make it in any industry.”

Tsepiso Motsepe, known as Moriski, is an up-and-coming hip-hop artist who was born in the North West. He juggles his love for music with being a radio DJ. He said, “I want to grow my music and take it globally and still continue to work with people I can learn from.”
