Johannesburg Water has tweeted that a team has been dispatched to close the water.
Ward councillor for ward 112 Candice James said she was very worried about the water loss and questioned whether Midrand was going to have water restrictions as a result.
James said the reason the reservoir burst was that the level control failed but the issue has since been resolved.
