Spike in car theft in Rabie Ridge

RABIE RIDGE - RABIE Ridge police spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo warned that theft of motor vehicles is on the increase.

He said, “Motor vehicles, especially Isuzu bakkies, are being increasingly reported as stolen in Mayibuye, Kanana and Phomolong. Most of the complainants told police that their vehicles had been stolen [during the] night.”

Nhlongo added that police are appealing to members of the public to make sure their vehicles are locked and all windows are closed before leaving them unattended.

“Make sure you immediately report the vehicle as stolen to the police. Anyone found driving a vehicle reported as stolen will be arrested.”

Tips to avoid your car being stolen:

  •  Ensure the vehicle is locked and all windows closed at all times
  •  Consider putting a tracking device on your vehicle
  •  Park the vehicle in secure parking
  •  Do not leave the keys in the vehicle or the vehicle running while you make a quick stop at a shop or someone’s home.
