Life4U promotes clean toilets

IVORY PARK - The Life4U community organisation recently went on a clean-up campaign in two schools in Tembisa and Ivory Park.

“[We started early in the morning] at Boitumelong Secondary School. We arrived there to educate pupils about toilet hygiene,” said the organisation’s project manager, Simon Molekwa.

At around 9.30am, they moved to Bonwelong Secondary School. There they also taught pupils about toilet hygiene, but went the extra mile by assisting in cleaning the school’s toilets.

“Since the project started last year in April in Ivory park, we have been honoured and are proud to have started the initiative because many schools are now prioritising toilet hygiene,” said Molekwa.

“Pupils now see the importance of maintaining clean toilets,” he said as he spoke of the progress of their project.

This year, the theme for the project is War against Unhygienic Toilets and it has already received endorsement from celebrity, Nkanyiso Bhengu. “For us to win the war and to encourage pupils to maintain clean toilets, we have invited celebrities and famous people to motivate and encourage pupils to maintain clean toilets.”

Bhengu heeded their call and joined the team on their campaign at Boitumelong and Bonwelong. “We were very excited about the visit and felt motivated when we heard him addressing the pupils.”

Molekwa said the organisation will continue with the campaign until pupils adhere to clean toilets.

“We encourage principals to ensure toilet maintenance so that pupils can be able to use clean functioning toilets; cleanliness is the responsibility of the pupils.”

“We also thanked Boitumelong Secondary School cleaners for making sure that toilets remain clean no matter the circumstances. It is not an easy job,” said Molekwa.
