Meet the men of Goldfish

JOBURG - The electronic and dance group from Cape Town that has been making waves all over the globe gave City Buzz a sneak peek into the world that is Goldfish.

Goldfish, if you don’t already know, is the two-man dance duo that has been making waves with their upbeat electronic music.

They are the group responsible for the smash hits We Come Together, Moonwalk Away and Choose Your Own Adventure.

City Buzz managed to snag a short interview to get to know the band, just minutes before they started their set at Goldfish Submerged Sundays, on 2 May at Zoo Lake.

Goldfish is made up of two members, Dominic Peters on bass and keyboard, and David Poole on the saxophone and the flute.

Both members come from a Jazz music background and it is for this reason that their inspiration is derived from the same genre, but not only Jazz – they also make their music from listening to rock, kwaito and any other ‘awesome’ music.

“We get our inspiration from all music, as long as it’s awesome and has a lot of musical integrity,” said Peters.

“It’s like food. You can’t just eat hamburgers every day – you’ve got to mix it up,” explained Poole.

Working closely with a number of vocalists, the Goldfish members are definitely lovers of their own sound and the manner in which they produce the songs that they do.

“We work with a lot of vocalists and Dave even does some vocals on some of our songs.”

“What’s great about being in an electronic band is that you’re not limited to use one vocalist. We let the song choose the vocalist that should be on the track.”

The main piece of advice that Goldfish has for all aspiring musicians out there is to continue to produce music and make sure to keep all the music original.
