Rabie Ridge community urged to join fight against crime

JOBURG - The Gauteng Department of Community Safety made a commitment to continue fighting crime in a recent awareness road show.

Members of South African Police Service (Saps) in Rabie Ridge, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, Men for Development in South Africa and local businesses said they will strengthen their partnership in the fight against crime in Rabie Ridge.

Addressing the community, Rabie Ridge station commander, Colonel Phostick Maoto, emphasised the importance of community mobilisation and community intelligence in the fight against crime.

Maoto said, “Crime affects all of us. As a station commander, my primary concern is your safety, but for me and all Saps members in the station to be able to discharge our duty effectively and efficiently there must be good working relations between us and the community.”

He stated that community participation is no longer a choice for safer communities, but is key in the fight against any form of criminality. “I know that most of the community members here know these criminals. I urge you to come forward with information that will assist us to bring them to book and stop turning a blind on crime. Let us join hands and stop crime before you become a victim,“ said Maoto.

Community members were urged to join community safety structures such as the Community Policing Forum, Youth Crime prevention desks, Men as Safety Promoters and Women Safety Desk, which are all fully functional in the station.
