Body of man in apparent suicide still unknown

MIDRAND - Midrand police have not identified the body of a man found hanging from a branch of a tree in an open plot on West Street in Glen Austin on 30 October.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the man’s identity and circumstances surrounding his death were still unknown, and the case was still under investigation.

At 6.30am a Glen Austin resident and his workers were on their way to work when they came across the body.

The body was tied to the tree with a shoelace and black electric cord.

The workers called the police and the Midrand police arrived at about 7.10am with emergency services. The man was declared dead on the scene.

Acting police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the man was between the ages of 30 and 35 years. “He was wearing black jeans and a blue t-shirt,” he said.

In response to missing persons being reported to the police, Maphakela said he was unaware of a missing person who fits the man’s description.
