International soccer career up for grabs

MIDRAND - The Football Five World Championship (F5WC) regional qualifiers (South Africa) are going to be held at the Midrand soccer arena.

Interactive Sport has acquired the rights to host the qualifiers.

The winning team will get an opportunity to battle it out with teams from Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The winner will win an all expenses paid trip to Dubai in April next year, where they will compete against teams from around the world..

“The tournaments have been a success previously with two South African players being invited for trials in Manchester City and Chelsea,” said Nqobile Mabaso, public relations officer at Interactive Sport.

On 2 November, more than 50 teams comprising of five to seven men are expected to enter the tournament.

F5WC aims to target amateur soccer players over the age of 16.

“One just has to have a passion for football and have what it takes to take on teams from across the world,” said Mabaso.

Corporations, soccer clubs and schools are invited to enter.

The kickoff is split into two slots. The first will be from 9am to 12.30pm and the second from 12.30pm to 4pm.

Teams are advised to arrive early for registration.
